Grandma Johnson’s Scones
Ingredients:
2 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 cup white sugar
1 tablespoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup butter, chilled and diced
3/4 cup milk
1 egg
Instructions:
Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
In a separate bowl, whisk together milk and egg. Add to the flour mixture, stirring just until moistened.
Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead briefly. Roll out to 1-inch thickness. Cut into rounds with a floured biscuit cutter.
Place scones 2 inches apart on a greased baking sheet.
Bake in preheated oven until golden brown, about 15 minutes. Remove from the oven and cool on wire racks.
